The Expulsion of Germans from Eastern Europe
The Theme of the "Genocide Week" 2010 Dear Friends and Members. As in previous years an event called the “Genocide Week” will take place from March 21 to March 27 in Canada. At this event a Genocide that took place in the past will be recognized. In years past it was the suffering of the Ukrainians under the Communists, the plight of the native Indians, the injustice of the Palestinians and others. The main event will take place on Wednesday March 24. 2010 at the University of Toronto. The event will be sponsored by an organization called "Canadians for Genocide Education" (CGE) 48 ethnic groups, including the German Canadian Congress, are members of the CGE.  This year the German Canadian Congress was able to convince the members of the CGE to make the "Expulsion of the Germans from Eastern Europe after WWII" the theme of the Genocide Week 2010. The keynote speaker on March 24 will be Prof. Dr. Alfred de Zayas from Geneva. Dr. de Zayas is the former Senior Human Rights Officer of the  United Nations, a poet and author of many books. Sixty years ago there was terrible suffering in Germany. About 15 Million Germans were driven from their homeland, where they and their ancestors had lived for centuries. In the process over 2 million lost their live. They were not expelled because they had done anything wrong, but simply because they were Germans. About two million women were raped. It indeed was a Genocide, which an American President called the worst ethnic cleansing in the history of mankind. Because little attention is paid to this event by the media, the general public does not know much about this tragedy. During the Genocide Week 2010 this will change and the event will be the main focus. In order to make it a success we need your support and participation. Please come to Toronto and be part of the event and bring your friends along. It is very important that we tell our society about the tragedy which happened at the end of WWII. Tickets for the event will be $10.00 to cover the flight for Dr. de Zayas and the cost of renting the hall. The event takes place in the Health Sciences Auditorium, 6th Floor 155 College St., University of Toronto The doors open at 7:00 P.M. and the program starts at 7:30 P.M  For additional information and to register please contact the German Canadian Congress Tel. 519-746-9006           e-mail: dkkont@golden.net        or         dkkont@gmail.com
